De Staat - I_CON album cover

The cover for I_CON from De Staat features no photographs but has a large patterned design instead. The colours are very bright and bold and this would draw the audience towards the album as it sticks out so much. The pattern is an aztec style design, this doesnt really relate to the album or follow the genre of the band. The name of the album and band are in quite a small font right at the top of the cover. the audience wouldn't really be drawn to the title and instead most of the focus would be on the main pattern of the album cover. This album cover does not follow a similar style to their other album covers, which do follow a similar style to each other.

These two covers both have a simple, single colour background with the title very clear and in the centre of the cover. They also both feature a single image in the middle of the cover. The cover for I_CON is very different to these two covers which may suggest that the band wanted to try something different for their latest album, something that would stand out more and draw the audience towards the album.

Costume

The actors in the video will be wearing very casual clothing. Jeans and t-shirts will be worn by all of the actors. Everyone in the video is meant to be at a house party so it wouldn't make sense to have everyone wearing really fancy or smart clothing so the casual look will fit with the location and narrative of the music video. There will be no costume changes in the video.

Filming script

There will be a couple of lines in the video said by the actors. There will be a line just before the song starts playing saying, "put that song on". This will lead onto the close up shot of the ipod playing the song. The music will then start. There will be another line in the song where one of the actors say "where are they".  This will move the narrative of the video along as it will lead to the partygoers finding the dead bodies in the kitchen.

Filming location

The whole shoot was shot in a friend of the groups house. We used the house to show a house party style scenario. We filmed some shots outside of the house when it was dark, but most shots were done in the living room and the kitchen where there is better lighting. We also used the toilet for the scene with the band members in a very dark room. We used the toilet as it was a small, cramped room. This was exactly the kind of room we wanted.

Shot list

In our music video we will use several different shot types.

We will feature many close up shots of performance in the video. These include close up shots on the guitar, the drums and the vocallist. We got this idea from the video for Reptilia from The Strokes.

We will use a pan shot in the video to show the dead body on the floor. The camera will slowly pan up the body and the pan will be an important of the video.

Long shots will be used to show the whole band during the performance parts of the music video. There will not be many long shots as we prefer the close up shots on the instruments.

An over-the-shoulder shot will be used to show the band members running away at the end of the music video. It will also be used at the beginning of the video to show someone entering the party.

A point of view shot will be used to show the song being played on the ipod.

A mid shot will be used to show the three band members in the dark room. Just the shoulders upwards would be shown of the members. There will be very low lighting in this shot with some light coming from below the three members.
